McKenna to chair Cardinal's Dinner

TORONTO - Frank McKenna, the former premier of New Brunswick and ambassador to the United States, will be chairman for this year’s Cardinal’s Dinner, to be held Oct. 30 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The dinner, the 29th annual event, is the largest annual fund-raising dinner in Canada with an average attendance of 1,900 people.

McKenna has been deputy chair of the TD Bank Financial Group since 2006. He came to TD after a short stint as Canadian ambassador in the United States. From 1987-97, McKenna was premier of New Brunswick.

The Cardinal’s Dinner was begun by the late Cardinal Gerald Emmett Carter, former archbishop of Toronto, to raise funds for his favourite charities. Since its inception in 1979, more than $4 million has been raised for various charities.

Archbishop Thomas Collins will host the dinner for the second time since taking over as archbishop of Toronto from Cardinal Aloysius Ambrozic.
