St. Mike's to open up private girls' school

TORONTO- After more than 150 years of offering an education to boys, St. Michael's College School will now help launch a private Catholic school for girls.

A meeting to discuss the school was scheduled for Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. at St. Michael's College. For information call the school at (416) 653-3180.

St. Michael's remains the only private Catholic boys school in Ontario. The girls' school is the result of a high demand for a private girls school from St. Mike's alumni. The girls' school is set to open in September of 2008. The school will hold classes for Grades 7 to 9 and will eventually expand to a full secondary school in 2011.

This new school will not be considered a sister school to St. Michael's.

Students applying for the school, just like St. Michael's, will have to write an entrance exam.

The new school will not be located on the St. Michael's midtown campus and the location has yet to be announced. The school will be located in an existing building.
