Collins opens lecture series
February 19, 2007
TORONTO - Toronto’s new archbishop will have something to say about what Canadian mining companies are doing to the environment and to local populations around the world in the kickoff for St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church’s lecture series, “Stewardship of the Earth, Calling the Mining Industry to Account.”
Archbishop Thomas Collins will give the first lecture in the series Feb. 28, 7:15 p.m. at St. Dominic’s in Mississauga.
The lecture series, organized by the parish’s Social Justice Education Committee, will continue with talks by Fr. Paul Cusack on March 7, and Luck Stocking of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace on March 14 and 21.
The St. Dominic’s committee chose its theme based on Development and Peace’s current campaign in solidarity with communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America affected by Canadian mining operations.
St. Dominic’s is on the corner of Cawthra Road and Atwater Avenue. For information call Beverley Carpenter at (905) 278-7762.
