Students go underground in aid of ShareLife

TORONTO - Leslie Gimpes, a student at Mississauga’s St. Joseph Catholic High School, joined more than 75 students from three Toronto-area high schools at busy subway stops in the city March 24 to raise awareness and funds for ShareLife.
ShareLife is the archdiocese of Toronto’s charitable fundraising arm. It supports more than 30 agencies in the archdiocese, including Covenant House Toronto, a homeless shelter for youth, Catholic Family Services in the Greater Toronto Area and Rosalie Hall, which helps young mothers and their children.

Gimpes, 16, was at the Yonge/Bloor stop during the early morning rush hour. She, along with 29 other students from St. Joseph’s, began their day at 6:30 a.m., having left an hour earlier from their school.
“I want to help out with my school community and show my support,” she said while holding a ShareLife bag and bookmark brochures.
Students from Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton and Neil McNeil High Schools also volunteered their time at five TTC stations.
ShareLife aims to raise $14.15 million in this year’s campaign. It took the first step towards its goal by collecting $2.5 million on the first of three ShareLife Sundays on March 21.
The next ShareLife Sunday is April 25, followed by the third on May 30.
