Anderson Lake, ON
A new chapter of faith and renewal has begun at the Anishinabe Spiritual Centre. After more than four decades of stewardship by the Jesuits of Canada, the Centre is now guided by an Anishinabe led Board of Directors, under the spiritual care of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie. This transition affirms the Centre’s mission to be a place of healing, reconciliation, and spiritual growth — where Catholic faith and Anishinabe traditions walk hand in hand.
This moment of renewal comes just in time for a moment of grace: the Anishinabe Spiritual Centre has been named an official Jubilee 2025 Pilgrimage Site. As the universal Church celebrates Jubilee — a year of hope, forgiveness, and new beginnings — pilgrims are invited to journey to Anderson Lake, where prayer, creation, and community converge.
Visitors to the Anishinabe Spiritual Centre will discover more than a retreat centre; they encounter sacred ground. The chapel, the waters of the lake, and the quiet forest paths all invite the heart into prayer. Retreat facilities welcome groups and individuals for days of reflection, learning, and renewal. Expanded programming, blending Catholic teaching with Anishinabe spiritual tradition, offers pilgrims a unique opportunity to encounter God’s presence in creation and community.
Eddie MacDonald, Executive Director of the centre reflected: “At the Anishinabe Spiritual Centre, we welcome every pilgrim, student, and retreatant as family. This is a place where hearts are opened to God’s presence through creation, prayer, and community. As we begin this new chapter as a Jubilee 2025 Pilgrimage Site, we invite Catholics from across Canada to walk with us — in renewal of faith, in reconciliation, and in hope.”
As part of Jubilee 2025, Catholics across Canada are warmly encouraged to consider:
