Cardinals discuss needs of church but don't set conclave date

VATICAN CITY - After completing their third pre-conclave meeting, the College of Cardinals still had not announced a date for the conclave. Instead, they used the March 4 and 5 meetings to discuss needs of the church.

It was a sad, bad time for the Church. Only days before the conclusion of Pope Benedict XVI’s pontificate, Scottish Cardinal Keith O’Brien, Britain’s most senior cleric, resigned as archbishop.
