It was Pope Benedict who warned us of the dangers of relativism, and never were his words so pertinent and biting as now. Just a few days ago a young Englishman was slaughtered in the streets of London. His ostensible crime was that he was a soldier and wearing a “Help for Heroes” shirt, promoting a campaign to raise money for badly wounded colleagues. His murderers, who gutted and tried to decapitate him, screamed “Allahu Akbar” as they killed him, and then explained to horrified onlookers that they had committed the act because British soldiers were in Islamic countries and their faith demanded that they act thus.
