Eucharistic Adoration 'heart of the armour of God'

The new Fathom Entertainment docudrama Adore Him hopes to inspire Catholics and seekers of faith to embrace the transcendence of Eucharistic Adoration.

This sequel to the 2024 Gabriel Award-winning film Jesus Thirsts: The Miracle of the Eucharist will soon be available for Canadians and the world at large to stream following a one-week U.S. exclusive theatrical window from Oct. 4-8.

Adore Him is directed and written by Don Johnson, a Catholic convert who founded Runaway Planet Pictures, which is dedicated to “storytelling that brings hidden truths to light, uncovers injustice and draws people toward Jesus and His Catholic Church.”

Johnson’s artistic collaborator, executive producer Deacon Steve Greco, told The Catholic Register how Adore Him will acquaint viewers with the graces that flow from this devotional practice.

“Eucharistic Adoration is transformative,” said Greco, of the Diocese of Orange, California. “It is something that changes people's lives. More vocations come from Eucharistic Adoration than anything else.”

Prominent bishops, priests, speakers and Catholic ministry leaders were invited to share their personal approaches to Eucharistic Adoration and reflected on its power to decorate their spiritual lives.

Chris Stefanick, a Catholic author and international speaker who works to support people discover how to live lives intended for them by Christ through his ministry Real Life Catholic, shared in the documentary how he views Eucharistic Adoration as an expression of God’s love for all.

“I’m reminded when I look at the Eucharist that we have a God who says, ‘I’ll tell you your name. I’ll tell you your value. You are precious. You are mine. You are worth dying for. That’s who you are,' ” said Stefanick.

Kathleen Beckman, co-founder of the Foundation of Prayer for Priests, proclaimed in Adore Him that “we need the armour of God, and Eucharistic Adoration is very much at the heart of the armour of God. The helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the sword of the spirit, all of that comes together in adoration.”

Young seekers of faith are boldly going countercultural by attending Mass regularly, engaging in parish life and spending meaningful time in Eucharistic Adoration. Greco said there is a “special emphasis” to encourage young people to experience Adore Him, and that is why Life Teen is a major partner. He shared how there are many powerful testaments from youth and young adults about their sacred moments with the Blessed Sacrament.

“We have testimony after testimony of young adults who didn't really believe in the Real Presence,” said Greco, who founded the worldwide healing and evangelization ministry Spirit Filled Hearts. “Then they go before the monstrance and the Eucharist. All of a sudden, they feel the presence of God. All of a sudden, their life becomes transformed.

“One particular case in the film: a young woman says, ‘I had all these addictions, and the addictions went away when I was before the Lord and worshipped Him and really felt His presence and felt His love,’ ” he said.

The “drama” aspect of docudrama is realized through cinematic reenactments of key moments in salvation history. The building of the Ark of the Covenant to house the Ten Commandments tablets, precisely crafted with the specifications God gave to Moses at Mount Sinai, is the earliest depicted moment. Christ’s birth and public teachings comprise the lion’s share of the re-creations, as He was, is and always will be the Real Presence. The dramatized moment in closest historical proximity is the first recorded Eucharistic processions in medieval Europe during the 13th century.

Audiences have already engaged with Adore Him at premiere events, and the response was beyond Greco’s imagination.

“I've never seen anything like it, to be candid with you,” said Greco. “The response from the people… they were just mesmerized by it. I believe that this film is going to transform hearts so they understand more how much God loves them. And (they’ll) understand how much they'll get out of going before Him in the Blessed Sacrament because God will be loving them, speaking to them.”
