Papal place
May 28, 2025
It might be worthwhile for The Catholic Register to study developments in the papacy over the past century. The demands placed on the successor of St. Peter seem to have expanded out of all proportion. The Pope is expected to travel incessantly, talk to reporters, and facilitate World Youth Day almost like a cheerleader. Yet his vocation is not to be a media star but to teach Catholic doctrine on faith and morals. Could the extras be made optional, delegated or dropped?

Alas, the peripatetic papacy seems permanent – the Editor.
