True truth

June 6, 2025

Thanks to Anna Farrow for her excellent May 25 column “What is truth?” In his Confessions, St. Augustine views God as the absolute Truth by which all else is true. God created the universe and its reality. The mind’s understanding must conform to reality for it to be true. The objective truth is there’s no evidence supporting allegations of genocide at the Kamloops Indian Residential School and elsewhere.

Yet the accusations are being perpetuated based on survivor “memories” and “the spirit of truth,” implying a subjective view of “truth.” Genuine reconciliation requires agreement based on objectively true facts.
