Trust deficit

We are in election season for Catholic School Board Trustees. The deadline for candidates submitting nominations is August 21. The election takes place Oct 26.

The Ontario Government has imposed its authority over elected trustees serving boards it believed were not performing satisfactorily. We still need to reflect on the role of the trustee. The prospective candidates need to understand their role. Likewise, the electorate needs to understand their expectations. Trustee is not a volunteer role. It is responsible to the electorate no different from municipal councillors, MPPs or MPs.
