Siren song

October 11, 2026

Scott Ventureyra's essay "Resisting political idolatry's siren call" struck a nerve especially since it was undergirded by his courageous witness during Covid. But it is not so much a deficiency in truth, I believe, as a lack of fortitude that is our core problem.

Too many are singing from the hymnal not due to any ideological fervor but because it is expedient, exemplified today by cancel culture. This is particularly egregious in our faith where we assert not just that God is Truth but that Truth is tangible. As Pilate said, "Behold the man," Peter was saying, "I do not know that man."
