Happy anniveraries

Pope Benedict's six-day visit to the United States has been marked by a plethora of anniversaries. Even his own: the Holy Father celebrated his 81st birthday on April 16, the day he met U.S. President George Bush in Washington, DC.

But there have been a few others.

There is the 200th anniversary for the day that Baltimore, the oldest diocese in the United States, was elevated to archdiocese. It was also the bicentennial for the dioceses of New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Louisville, all carved from Baltimore.

Finally, April 18 was the third anniversary of the pontiff's election.

That makes seven anniversaries. Congrats all round!
