Pope Francis elevates Ireland's national Knock Shrine to international status

DUBLIN -- Pope Francis has elevated the National Sanctuary of Our Lady of Knock to the status of an International Shrine of Eucharistic and Marian Devotion.

COVID forces Knock shrine to close Aug. 15 to discourage crowds

Because of the COVID pandemic, the Marian shrine has announced it will close Aug. 14-16 to discourage pilgrims from coming for the feast of the Assumption, usually its busiest day of the year.

KNOCK, Ireland -- The Marian shrine at Knock announced Aug. 10 that in addition to postponing the popular Knock Novena and pilgrimage because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the shrine and its church would be closed for the Aug. 15 feast of the Assumption of Mary to ensure pilgrims do not arrive anyway.

Miraculous cure of woman at Knock in 1989 confirmed

DUBLIN -- The Catholic Church in Ireland has confirmed that a woman who was seriously ill with multiple sclerosis experienced a complete healing of all her symptoms at Knock shrine in September 1989.
