Hate crimes
It’s sad that we have come to a time when churches and statues of saints are being defaced and vandalized.

A new low
Re: Wanton destruction of religious art:
The standard dictionary definition for an iconoclast is one who attacks cherished beliefs and institutions and a destroyer of images used in religious worship.

Different rules
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has apologized for so many wrongdoings of late. He’s “sorry” about blackface; he’s “sorry” about SNC-Lavalin; he’s “sorry” about the conflict of interest with WE Charity — involving payments to three of his family members, exceeding a total of $300,000, in exchange for public relations appearances for the charity. This preceded Ottawa’s granting WE a nearly one-billion-dollar contract they then cancelled. Mr. Trudeau operates by different rules.

Well done, Knights
Kudos to the Knights of Columbus of Holy Cross Parish in Burnaby, B.C., for going ahead with their bicycle drive, Bicycles for Humanity, despite three partners suddenly pulling out, citing differences of opinion on LGBTQ issues. The Knights collect donated bikes and ship them in large containers to Africa where the poor can use them as inexpensive modes of transportation.

Lower class

Beautiful sculpture
Re: Jesus 2020: A clay model for our times (April 26):
Thank you Timothy Schmalz for the most incredibly beautiful sculpture I have ever seen. I was physically and emotionally moved, as I turned to Page 6 in The Catholic Register and saw how you captured our Most Holy Lord in such beautiful movement.

Smear campaign
Re: Don’t Judge Pius XII yet, expert warns (May 10):
If ever there was a smear campaign, the one against Pope Pius XII is one for the history books. Having studied his pontificate, I am convinced that the campaign against him has done considerable damage against a man who was acclaimed in the late 1940s-early ’50s by so many Jews, including the Jewish State of Israel, as a hero for all he did during the Second World War.
