Cardinal Thomas Collins apologized during his live-streamed Mass from St. Michael’s Cathedral June 6 and honoured those who died or were mistreated in Canada’s residential schools.

The “betrayal of trust” by those responsible for Canada’s residential schools must “compel us to ensure that our sins are not repeated,” said Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto.

Rights violated

June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ. Recently, the Toronto Catholic District School Board passed a motion to fly the rainbow flag and celebrate Pride month in June. We believe the vote was wrong on moral and legal grounds.

Conservative MP Cathay Wagantall’s bill to ban sex-selective abortions in Canada was defeated in the House of Commons by a 248-82 margin June 2.

Worthy fight

RE: Lindsay Shepherd carries on fight for free speech (May 11):

Ms. Shepherd innocently “fell into” her situation at Wilfred Laurier University. Her mother suggested recording the meeting that she had been mysteriously called to by her supervisors. Otherwise, Ms. Shepherd would have left the meeting feeling guilty of misdirecting students on gender ideology. Instead, she blew open for all to see one of the biggest crimes of our time. 

The latest annual report from Development and Peace reveals the financial toll that COVID-19 has taken on the Canada’s Catholic development and aid organization.

The Supreme Court of Canada has reaffirmed that secular courts should not be making theological decisions.

The Pride flag will be flying over Ontario Catholic schools in a number of jurisdictions, including Toronto, in the month of June.

Great theologian

Just read in The Catholic Register that the theologian Hans Küng passed away. It may have been a small piece, but it was respectful.
