Unnecessary Act I concur with your Feb. 20 editorial “Damaging Lies” in its non-partisan criticism of the Prime Minister’s “political lies” directed at the trucker “Freedom Convoy” protesters in Ottawa. He mendaciously called them a “fringe minority” of violent “racists.” Many politicians, including two Liberal MP’s, voiced their disapproval of his “divisive and stigmatizing” comments.

Theology of me Sr. Helena Burns’ Feb. 13 column “ Divide and Conquer? Never in Canada” raises the question of whether, in her world, the democratically elected government is the enemy of freedom. Is the sight of a military-style convoy of massive intimidating trucks, each one representing just one person, flying dual flags, blasting any opposition with their air horns, and illegally occupying and thwarting everyone else’s freedom really “glorious” to her?

Fairness from Farrow I would like to express my appreciation for Anna Farrow’s article “I did see a mob; it wasn’t the truckers.” The piece was fair and accurate in its insight given that Farrow was actually in Ottawa and able to judge what she saw. I liked, as well, her inclusion of the religious aspect of the protest, a fact that has not been noted. Canadians joined in the prayer even if they were not Catholics.

To uncover the truth about this historical event requires more than research. The facts would yield only to the most tenacious and painstaking investigative journalism.

Another story Re: Catholic media must do better on Indigenous file (Dec. 2): Fr. Raymond de Souza argues convincingly that relying on mainstream media for accurate reporting “is a mistake.” Last May it described the discovery of Indigenous children’s remains at the Kamloops Residential School as a “mass grave.” The terminology was provocative and misleading, suggesting murders with bodies thrown into mass graves.
